Ever wondered which jobs in Jamaica pay the most money? Of course you have.... that's why you are reading this article. We will be looking at the highest paying jobs in Jamaica based on our salary data! The results may surprise you. Also, how do you feel about politics?

Every few months, somebody posts the question in a random WhatsApp group, and the same answers come back. The usual: Doctor, Lawyer, Pilot, etc. However, if one guy jumps up and says politician, the whole group laughs at him馃檭. What's terrible about these debates is that you hardly ever hear a number.

I have been collecting salary figures for years. CaribSalaries now has over聽400 salary reports for Jamaica, covering a whopping 180 employers馃く, and the latest batch changed the answer in a way I didn't expect.

The short version: Based on our data, the highest paid person in Jamaica is the President & CEO of Sagicor Group Jamaica, Christopher Zacca. Our data shows he earned a base salary of聽USD $650,291,聽about JMD $103,396,269(calculated with an exchange rate of 159 to 1 USD)馃く.

Note well: All salaries are quoted as annual figures. This article was written based on our data as at September 20, 2026.

What Are The Ten Highest Paid Jobs In Jamaica?

These are the highest annual salaries in the data. Nine out of ten are parliamentary offices, and they all represent the April 2024/2025 tranche of the statutory scale, so they are published rates set by law rather than anybody's claim. I added an extra one at number 11.

Note Well: one big name is not on this list, and I left it off on purpose. Gary Peart, Executive Chairman of Supreme Ventures, was reported at JMD $149,480,000 for FY2024, which is more than the Sagicor figure at number one. He is paid entirely in Supreme Ventures shares rather than cash, and shares are not a salary, so he does not belong in a salary ranking. The figure and its source sit on our Life at the Top page instead: https://caribsalaries.com/life-at-the-top. The number was reported by the Jamaica Observer on 23 October 2024, and I have not checked it against a Supreme Ventures filing.

1. Sagicor Group President & CEO - JMD $103,396,269 (about USD $650,291)

2. Prime Minister - JMD $28,587,893 (about USD $179,700)

3. Deputy Prime Minister - JMD $25,729,103 (about USD $161,700)

4. Leader of the Opposition - JMD $25,729,103 (about USD $161,700)

5. Minister of Finance - JMD $24,585,588 (about USD $154,600)

6. Cabinet Minister - JMD $22,870,314 (about USD $143,800)

7. Speaker of the House - JMD $22,870,314 (about USD $143,800)

8. Minister of State - JMD $18,296,251 (about USD $115,000)

9. Parliamentary Secretary - JMD $17,152,736 (about USD $107,800)

10. Deputy Speaker - JMD $17,152,736 (about USD $107,800)

11. Member of Parliament - JMD $14,179,595 (about USD $89,100)

The median Jamaican salary across all reports is JMD $2,622,000. A Cabinet Minister earns almost nine times that. The Prime Minister earns nearly eleven times that.

I hold three tranches of the scale, so the trend is visible instead of assumed. The Prime Minister went from JMD $22,332,830 in April 2022 to JMD $25,267,539 in 2023, and JMD $28,587,893 in 2024. An MP went from JMD $11,077,084 to JMD $12,532,699, then JMD $14,179,595. That is 28% over two years, applied evenly at every rung, top to bottom.

So What Is The Highest Paid Job You Can Actually Apply For?

I know a lot of people out there don't like politics, and becoming the CEO of a financial group seems like a pipe dream. Let's take a look at the jobs that regular people can obtain.

- Data Engineer - JMD $11,000,000, JN Bank. Reported as a salary range.

- Data Engineer, ReactJS Developer, and Java Consultant - JMD $10,794,000 each, Intellibus. Reported as a salary range.

- Security Engineer - JMD $10,000,000 or more, Amazon.

- Database Administrator and IT Project Manager - JMD $10,000,000 or more, NCB.

- Principal, secondary school - JMD $9,172,508, Bridgeport High, advertised up to JMD $11,741,586.

- Software Engineer and DevOps Engineer - JMD $9,050,000, Lucidworks.

- Product Manager - JMD $9,050,000, Innovate 10X.

- IT Auditor - JMD $9,050,000, Sagility.

- QA Engineer - JMD $9,050,000, CIBC Caribbean.

Every entry on that list, except the school principal, is a technology role or a technology company. The best paid non-political job(excluding Sagicor's CEO, of course) on the list is School Principal at JMD $9,172,508. Tech dominating the top ten isn't surprising given the premium paid in the tech field. I have to also highlight that many of our salary submissions were from people in tech.

*I plan to write an updated version of this article in the future when we have more non-tech related submissions.

The Intellibus figures deserve a word, because they are the ones people will argue with. The underlying report is JMD $800,000 to $999,000 a month, which annualises to JMD $9,600,000 to $11,988,000. I hold the midpoint, JMD $10,794,000, roughly USD $67,857, and the site labels it as a band rather than pretending it is a precise figure. It should also be highlighted that Intellibus workers are paid in USD.

One thing this data proves is that you can live in Jamaica and be highly paid. Intellibus is a foreign company that decided to do business in Jamaica.

Note Well: several of the figures above sit at the top of a survey bracket, which means the true number could be higher, not lower. When somebody ticks "JMD $12,000,000 and above" there is no ceiling in the answer. Read those rows as the start of a range.

Which Sectors Pay The Most In Jamaica?

Median annual salary by sector, for every sector with at least five reports:

- Government & Public Administration - JMD $3,999,996 (141 reports)

- Information Technology - JMD $3,050,000 (67 reports)

- Banking & Financial Services - JMD $2,820,000 (69 reports)

- Law Enforcement & Security - JMD $2,760,000 (8 reports)

- Telecommunications - JMD $2,646,000 (38 reports)

- Automotive - JMD $2,640,000 (8 reports)

- Education - JMD $2,520,000 (20 reports)

- Healthcare - JMD $2,476,140 (15 reports)

- Insurance - JMD $2,400,000 (19 reports)

- Energy & Utilities - JMD $2,175,325 (6 reports)

- Marketing & PR - JMD $2,148,000 (6 reports)

- Science & Pharmaceuticals - JMD $1,680,000 (7 reports)

- Engineering & Manufacturing - JMD $1,536,000 (11 reports)

- Hospitality & Events - JMD $1,452,000 (6 reports)

- BPO & Contact Centres - JMD $1,340,000 (34 reports)

- Retail & Distribution - JMD $1,308,000 (8 reports)

It's quite interesting seeing the Government in first place. A few years ago, before Jamaica's Public Sector Compensation Restructuring, people were leaving the Government in large numbers. The Private Sector used to pay more than the Government (generally speaking), but now many Government roles pay far more than the Private Sector (again, generally speaking). I have heard of people leaving the private sector and running to the Government.

That is the single most useful line on this page. Information Technology pays a median of JMD $3,050,000, and BPO pays JMD $1,340,000. Those two sectors hire at the largest scale in Jamaica, and one pays more than double the other, for people who often sit in the same office park.

Which Employers In Jamaica Pay The Most?

Median salary by employer, limited to those with at least three reports:

- Government of Jamaica - JMD $14,179,595 (51 reports, mostly parliamentary offices)

- Intellibus - JMD $10,794,000 (3 reports)

- Jamaica Post - JMD $5,198,035 (6 reports)

- National Fisheries Authority - JMD $4,266,270 (20 reports)

- Norus Tech - JMD $3,960,000 (5 reports)

- Ministry of Labour - JMD $3,770,761 (3 reports)

- Jamaica Money Market Brokers - JMD $3,696,000 (7 reports)

- CIBC Caribbean - JMD $3,374,000 (6 reports)

- GraceKennedy - JMD $3,093,573 (13 reports)

- Jamaica Customs Agency - JMD $3,060,000 (5 reports)

- NCB - JMD $2,940,000 (22 reports)

- JN Bank - JMD $2,935,000 (12 reports)

- Digicel Group - JMD $2,826,000 (32 reports)

- Sagicor - JMD $2,682,000 (16 reports)

The banks are interesting here. NCB, JN Bank, and Sagicor all sit near the national median as employers, and all three also hold some of the highest individual salaries in the data. A bank is not a high paying employer or a low paying one. It is both at once, depending on which floor you work on.

Is Tech Really The Highest Paying Career In Jamaica?

For anybody without a political mandate, yes. Here is the ladder, by median:

- Software Developer Intern - JMD $1,200,000 (2 reports)

- Web Developer - JMD $2,300,000 (3 reports)

- Software Developer - JMD $2,721,996 (14 reports, running JMD $1,680,000 to $3,600,000)

- Programmer Analyst - JMD $2,892,000 (8 reports)

- Junior Software Developer - JMD $3,180,000 (4 reports)

- Junior Developer - JMD $3,240,000 (3 reports)

- Software Engineer - JMD $4,300,000 (22 reports, running JMD $1,020,000 to $9,050,000)

- Senior Developer - JMD $5,520,000 (3 reports)

- Front End Developer, Level 5 - JMD $6,000,000 (2 reports)

Read that list twice, and you will notice something uncomfortable. A junior developer earns more than the median "Software Developer". That is not a mistake in the data. It is a title problem. "Junior" tends to appear where a company has a real career ladder, usually a bank or an established software house, and those companies pay. Plain "Software Developer" is the title small shops use for everybody, forever. Also, some places just pay way more than others.

The other thing worth staring at is Software Engineer: 22 reports, a median of JMD $4,300,000, and a range from JMD $1,020,000 to JMD $9,050,000. Nine times, same title, same island.

What Does A Normal Jamaican Salary Look Like?

Across all 498 approved reports:

- 25th percentile: JMD $1,500,000 (about USD $9,400)

- Median: JMD $2,622,000 (about USD $16,500)

- 75th percentile: JMD $4,300,000 (about USD $27,000)

- Lowest reported: JMD $600,000

- Highest reported: JMD $28,587,893

The bottom of the data is Interns, Reservations Specialists, Purchasing Clerks, Warehouse Associates, and a Children's Officer at a state agency, all clustered at JMD $600,000.

What Should You Actually Do With This?

1. If you are in the BPO Industry and you like tech, the gap is JMD $1,700,000 a year. That is the distance between the BPO median and the IT median, and it is the single largest sector jump available in this data.

2. Push for a title with a level in it. "Junior Developer" and "Front End Developer Level 5" both outearn plain "Software Developer". A company that grades its roles is a company that has thought about raising you.

3. Check the public service before you dismiss it. Director grade at Jamaica Post and the National Fisheries Authority sits at JMD $5,198,035, above the median for every private employer here.

4. Treat an advertised band as a floor. The Bridgeport High principal post was advertised as up to JMD $11,741,586 and the Fisheries research vessel captain at JMD $8,517,586. The number in the ad is where the conversation starts.

5. Ask for the band, not the number. Every one of the JMD $9,000,000 and up roles on this page came from somebody who knew what the bracket was before they negotiated.

How I Calculated These Figures?

Every number here comes out of the CaribSalaries database and nowhere else.

- 498 approved reports for Jamaica, across 310 job titles and 180 employers, all quoted as annual salaries in Jamaican dollars.

- Four kinds of sources sit behind them: the published statutory parliamentary scale for three years, advertised salaries from 2026 job postings, a developer community salary survey where people picked a bracket rather than typing a figure, and individual reports from workers.

- 99 of the 498 came in as a band. Where somebody picked a bracket, I store the midpoint, and the site says "reported as a salary band" next to it. Where a posting gave a range, I store the bottom, because that is a number somebody is definitely paid.

- Where a role has more than one report, I quote the median. Where it has one, I say so and quote the single figure rather than invent a range around it.

- US dollar figures convert at the rate cached the day I wrote this, about JMD $159 to USD $1.

I do not estimate, model, or fill gaps. If a job is not on this page, nobody has reported it yet.
