Dentists examine, diagnose and treat dental disease, carrying out restorations, extractions and preventive work, and in private practice run a business alongside the clinical load. A dental degree from UWI or an accredited overseas school and registration with the national dental council are required. Private practice accounts for most posts in the region, with the public dental service, hospitals and school programmes employing the remainder.
