Doctors diagnose and treat patients, order and interpret investigations, and in the public system carry heavy clinic and ward loads alongside internship and specialty training. The route is an MBBS from UWI or an accredited overseas school, internship, and registration with the national medical council before independent practice. Public hospitals and health centres employ most of them in the region, with private practice, private hospitals and occupational health making up the rest.
