Pilots fly scheduled, charter or utility aircraft, and carry legal responsibility for the aircraft, its flight planning and everyone on board. A commercial pilot licence with an instrument rating and accumulated hours is required, issued and overseen by the national civil aviation authority, and type ratings are added per aircraft. Regional carriers, charter and island-hopping operators, air ambulance services and corporate flight departments are the employers.
