Police officers patrol, respond to reports, investigate offences and give evidence in court, working shifts across divisions and specialist branches. Entry requires CSEC passes, medical and fitness standards and completion of training at the national police academy, with pay following the published force salary scales. The national police service is the employer, and officers may later move into specialist investigative, traffic or community policing branches.
