Security officers control access, patrol premises, monitor CCTV and respond to incidents, usually on twelve-hour shifts. Regional regulators require registration and vetting - in Jamaica through the Private Security Regulation Authority - along with employer training. Contract security firms are the largest employers, supplying retail, banking, hotels, ports and gated communities, with some organisations keeping in-house teams.
