Did you know? Cayman Islands

Three things about the place behind the numbers.

Where the funds are registered

The Cayman Islands is one of the largest domiciles for investment funds in the world, and the legal, audit and fund administration work that follows is the backbone of professional employment here. An office in George Town is often small in headcount and very large in assets under administration.

No income tax, high prices

There is no personal income tax, no capital gains tax and no corporation tax. Government is funded through import duty, work permit fees and financial services licensing instead, and the trade-off is one of the highest costs of living in the hemisphere, because the duty lands on the groceries.

Three islands, one of them tiny

Grand Cayman holds almost all the population. Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, about ninety miles away, are known as the Sister Islands, and Little Cayman is home to a few hundred people and a great many iguanas. All three use the Cayman dollar, which is pegged above the US dollar rather than below it.
